Many would consider pigs in blankets to be the best part of a traditional Christmas dinner, and now Marks & Spencer has begun selling huge versions of the meaty festive treat that measure in at a staggering foot long.
M&S are the latest outlet to release their version of the Christmas staple. Aldi has already debuted a 400g pack of two for £2.99, and Asda dubbed its larger 650g effort priced at £5 the “ultimate” pigs in blankets.
But on weight alone, the Marks & Spencer bacon-wrapped sausages appear to be the largest, coming in at 670g for two.
The product went on sale this week, and will set you back £5.
M&S suggests that the item could be enjoyed as a “festive hot dog with lashings of cranberry sauce.”
The ‘it’ product of 2018
This Christmas has seen consumers go mad for novelty variations on traditional pigs in blankets, and supermarkets have delivered with a range of twists on the favourite side-dish.
Sainsbury’s has created a Christmas Pigs in Blankets tea flavour – thankfully smoky lapsang souchong with sage and rosemary rather than actual sausage-flavoured tea – while Tesco, M&S, Pringles and Walkers are all selling pigs in blankets-flavoured crisps.
Earlier this week, Morrisons unveiled their new vegan pigs in blankets, made from tomato, potato, mushrooms and basil, which are then wrapped in an aubergine blanket. They’re sold in packs of ten and cost £2.50.
