A Vandyke Upper School pupil has returned from the An Comhdhail World Irish Dance Championships 2015 with a medal.

Connie Byrne, 13, of Harmony Road, ranked 6th out of 180 dancers in her solo slip jig.

The week long competition saw over 3000 Irish dancers from across the world compete for the titles.

Her dad, Stephen Byrne, said: “We are so proud of her, she has done amazing to bring back a medal at her second World Championships.

“She is delighted to have come home with a medal, she loves Irish Dancing.”

Stephen and his wife Joanne, took Connie to her first Irish Dance class in Leighton Buzzard, eight years ago and she has loved it ever since.

She dances for the Mary Drake School in Milton Keynes, with her younger sister Tilly, 11, who also loves Irish Dancing.

Her dad added: “Irish Dancing has become a massive part of all our lives, we are always travelling to classes, competitions or dress fittings.

“Connie is always dancing, she is very passionate about it, we will be in the supermarket and she will be doing her dancing in the aisles.”
