Leighton Buzzard Music welcome the distinguished Manor House String Quartet for their next concert at Leighton Buzzard Theatre on Saturday, November 29 at 7.30pm.

The quartet’s leader Vaughan Jones, a resident of Cheddington, is well known in the area while Vaughan and the quartet are all members of the prestigious orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Their programme includes two of the great masterpieces of the quartet repertoire, Beethoven’s Quartet in A, Opus 18 No 5 and Schubert’s A minor quartet whose slow movement is a set of variations on the lovely theme from his “Rosamunde” music.

Also in the programme is a fascinating rarity – the Quartet in G by Ferdinand Ries, a pupil and close friend of Beethoven in Vienna. Although his music is little known these days, the quartet are really enthusiastic about it. Ries was much admired in his time as a pianist, violinist and composer.

He also performed a huge service to Beethoven’s legacy in publishing an invaluable set of memoirs on Beethoven’s life which became the foundation of early biographies of the great man.

Tickets available at the theatre box office on 0300 300 5125, online and at the door.
