Review - Thriller Live at Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury

Thriller Live
Thriller Live

It’s a thriller of a night in a perfectly pitched tribute to the joy that the king of pop bought to the world.

Thriller Live takes the songs from Michael Jackson and turns them into a show telling the story of how he took the music world by storm.

There are many controversial elements about Michael Jackson’s life but perhaps wisely this show doesn’t stray into this area.

Instead the audience is treated to a spectacular delight of music and choreography. Starting off with the Jackson Five hits I Want You Back and ABC and then working the way through his many hits.

While all of the songs were of an incredibly high standard and the choreography during the songs was absolutely pitch perfect, you can’t help but inevitably compare it to Michael Jackson. While it doesn’t reach his standards, all of the cast generate a feeling of nostalgia for a thing once gone.

My only slight disappointment was the piece during Thriller. While everything was so precise, the song and especially the dancing, you almost wanted it to be the centre piece of the whole show but instead it felt like just another song in the excellent repertoire.

It could have been longer but I suspect the energy the entire ensemble put into the production, an extended version of Thriller might be a demand too far. I suspect like everyone I enjoy too much of a good time.

But this is an immensely enjoyable show and one that is likely to have you up and dancing by the end.

Thriller Live can be seen until Saturday October 24. For tickets call the box office on 0844 871 7607 or visit
