Just 24 hours after our front page story on the move to cancel GCSE drama, parents were sent a letter explaining that the course would be reinstated on the school’s curriculum.

However the decision to cancel A-Level drama at Vandyke will not be overturned, headteacher Tim Carroll has told the LBO.

A consultation with affected staff over the proposals will end on Monday.

Mr Carroll said: “Thankfully we have been able to ameliorate some of the measures originally proposed and that have been part of the consultation process.

“Consequently, GCSE Drama will continue to be available to students as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.

“Difficult times lie ahead however, as in many schools.

“At Vandyke governors have always faced up to these difficulties and been prepared to take the measures necessary to ensure the future health of the school.”
