Dogs have their day on walk with vets

The walk on Wednesday, June 15, was organised by Greensands Vets, based in Station Road, Woburn Sands, to help the dogs learn to enjoy socialising and enable the practice team to get to know them out of the surgery. The veterinary team is led by vet Emma Pillow and her colleague Derek Attride.

Emma said: “This was our second dog walk and we were worried that the weather might deter some walkers – but dog owners and their pets in Woburn are made of much sterner stuff and we were delighted that so many came to join us – and, in fact, the walk was dry throughout.

“From the youngest participant, a 14-week old Spaniel pup called Rollo, all of the dogs were very well-behaved and thoroughly enjoyed walking together and playing in the muddy puddles. They looked smart in their new bandanas and particularly enjoyed the dog treats we provided at the end while their owners tucked into the human versions.”

She continued: “It was particularly great to see a local rescue dog called Cuddles, owned by Gemma Hogan from Woburn Sands, take part. Cuddles is still unsure of other dogs so wears a special yellow dog vest to warn other owners to give her a wide berth. We kept her at the rear of the group and she was happy and relaxed throughout. She also tucked into the dog treats with great enthusiasm at the end!

“We’d like to thank all the humans and dogs who made the walk such an enjoyable experience for all of us. We are already planning our next walk for September.”
