Leighton-Linslade Town Council is set to agree no increase in the amount of council tax it will seek from residents.

At a full council meeting at the White House on Monday evening a proposed precept of £2,172,775 is due to be approved for 2016-17, which includes £200,000 contributions for future capital projects.

That would keep the charge for an average Band D property at £149.58.

The ability to keep the charge the same has been aided by an increase in the tax base – the number of properties liable to pay council tax – which has given the council a 2.89% rise to its precept.

But residents’ overall bill is set to rise as Central Beds Council is consulting on a 4% increase for its share of the bill, with a 1.99% rise also being planned by Beds Police and Beds Fire Service.
