The Blood Collector, local author Robert Wells’ second book of horror stories, set in and around Leighton Buzzard, has been published.

Vampires, ghosts and demons haunt the pages of its 14 contemporary, fictional tales that include locations such as Old Linslade Church, Linslade Wood, Vandyke Road cemetery, Tiddenfoot country park, Leighton Buzzard High Street and the Grand Union canal.

A doctor who opens a new private practice asks his patients to pay him by donating a pint of their blood; he says he needs it for research, but he has much more sinister plans on how to use it; a man meets his evil doppelganger while out shopping; the walls of a bungalow begin to bleed; and who is a young boy talking to in the attic when there’s nobody else there.

The book is a follow-up to his first collection of tales of terror and the supernatural, also based in and around the town, called The Devil is Missing.

“I’m pleased the book is out in time for Christmas, which is the traditional time for the telling of ghost stories,” says Robert, a former journalist and magazine publisher, who moved to the town in 1981. “Why not give Santa a scare and put it on your Christmas list.”

The Blood Collector is published by New Generation Publishing, price £9.99.
