Have you ever wondered who lives on the narrow boats you see on Leighton Buzzard’s canal? One houseboat dweller is artist and art tutor Jay Nolan-Latchford. She tells us: ‘I’m all about the colour! Originally from Bucks, I studied in Brighton and then worked in London as an illustrator, photographers stylist, window dresser and in the Royal Shakespeare Company wardrobe department.

‘Returning to my home turf, a slower pace led to painting, growing veg, raising hens and children. I also started my own design company specialising in greetings cards and gift wrap, supplying the top London Stores. Then a chance meeting led to a teaching qualification and I began hosting workshops for adults several years ago.

‘I love the outdoor life and have made my home on a houseboat moored on the Grand Union canal with my husband and our collection of old rescue dogs. I’m passionate about art for well-being and love working with people from all different fields.

You can see Jay’s beautiful work and find out about her art workshops during Bucks Art Weeks, which runs until 23rd June. Every year the bright yellow signs go up across and around Buckinghamshire, and visitors can drop in on all the artists and makers taking part. This year there are over 300 painters, potters, glassworkers, printmakers, jewellers, sculptors, photographers, textile workers and others showing their work and processes. It’s a great day out - most venues offer refreshments in exchange for a donation to charity.
