Linslade's Louise returns with musical

She plays Miss Adelaide in the much loved musical coming to Milton Keynes Theatre from Tuesday June 14 and Saturday June 18.

Louise said: “Guys and Dolls is my favourite musical. I was in the West End production back in 2006 and was part of the ensemble and then went on to do the UK tour as Sarah Brown.

“I am playing Miss Adelaide who is a ditzy character but very endearing character to play. She believes all of the stupid things that she says and there is a lot of acting that although the lines are funny, you have to play them genuinely.

“She has been married to Nathan Detroit for the last 14 years and they love each other but she is frustrated that he won’t commit.”

Having appeared in the show before, she’ll be taking insporation from others to have played the part.

Louise added: “I saw a lot of great people play this part in the West End, there was Sally Ann Triplett, Samantha Womack and Claire Sweeney and you would look at them and take little bits that they did.

“But once you are in a rehearsal room for a month and you have been working with a director and your fellow cast members then you find your own way with the part.”

And Louise has fond memories of playing the part in the West End.

She said: “It wasn’t my favourite musical when I did it back in 2006, I have to admit that I didn’t really know the show that well.

“But I have such fond memories of doing it and to come back and do this now is fantastic.

“I think it has everything that a good musical should have. It’s got a great story, the music is wonderful and the dancing and choreography is fantastic. You’ll come away from the theatre feeling uplifted and possibly with a tear in your eye.”

At the time of our interview, Louise is taking a break from the show and is touring with superstar singer Josh Groban. Not bad for the girl from Linslade.

But she will be back in time for when Guys and Dolls comes to Milton Keynes. She’s looking forward to returning to the area despite the pressure that it brings.

Louise said: “It is a very special gig because I used to work at Milton Keynes Theatre. I got a job there working as an usher when it opened and doing that for aboutsix months.

“It does feel like a home coming gig. Although there is a lot of pressure because I know my mum when she comes and watches the show and she will not be looking at anyone else and then I’ll have a lot of friends from Leighton Buzzard who will be coming to watch.”

Louise is probably best known for her roles in the West End performances of Wicked playing both Glinda and Elphaba.

She said: “I have to say that Wicked was a real game changer and it gave me the hardcore fanbase that I have now.

“But I always said I would love to play at the Royal Albert Hall and have now been luckily in the situation where I have performed a number of times and each time I get ready to perform, it is still incredibly nervous.

“I am going off to work on the UK premiere of Sideshow which has only ever been performed at Broadway at Southwark Playhouse so that is very exciting.

There is one or two other bits which I am not allowed to talk about yet but that will take me through to the rest of the year. It is a nice position to be in knowing what I will be doing rather than waiting by the phone.
