Risk of major traffic delays with return on international golf tournament

Hosted by 12-time European Tour winner Ian Poulter, who has a long association with the golf club, the tournament is taking place from Thursday, October 8 to Sunday, October 11.

And with top-name international players expected, and sponsors Sky Sports giving away 15,000 free tickets for the opening day of the televised tournament, traffic is expected to be much busier than usual in the area.

Residents and commuters are being advised that main roads in the area, especially the A5 to the south of the golf club, are expected to be very busy over the four days especially between 7-9am and 5-7pm.

Cllr Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Community Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “The return of the British Masters to Woburn is a major boost for the golf club and the local area after more than a decade away from the Marquess Course.

“We expect thousands of golf fans to be attending the four days of the tournament, which will help to promote Central Bedfordshire on an international platform.

“Obviously that means extra pressure on roads in the area, so we would encourage residents and workers, if possible, to consider alternative routes, work from home if possible on the Thursday and Friday or stagger departure times.”
