Have your say: 'Shape East West Rail plans' says local MP
MP Alex Mayer is urging local people to have their say in shaping the next stages of "East West Rail" which has the potential to speed up journey times for Leighton Buzzard passengers travelling by train to Oxford, Bedford and Cambridge.
The consultation (launched today Thursday, November 14) provides the latest designs and information on East West Rail, including the new build railway between Bedford and Cambridge and further upgrades to the rest of the line.
This includes proposals for how trains could be powered on the route, with a preference for battery-electric trains, plus the public are invited to have their say on planned timetables and services, which include "turn up and go" style trains (up to four trains per hour) for passengers.
The consultation comes hot on the heels of the budget when the Government announced its backing for East West Rail.

It is a six minute train journey from Leighton Buzzard Station to Bletchley Station where passengers can connect with East West Rail.
East West Rail could reduce journey times for a Leighton Buzzard passenger going to Oxford and Cambridge, and those stops in between, and see an end to people being forced to travel into London and back out again.
Ms Mayer, who is a member of Parliament’s Transport Select Committee, and who recently met with the East West Rail Group, said: “In the Budget, the Chancellor pledged to unlock East West Rail - completing the line all the way to Cambridge.
"That’s a commitment that will directly benefit thousands of people living locally - making it easier to access jobs and see loved ones. I urge local people to have their say on the latest plans and help shape the final designs for the railway.”
