Anita Scott of Anitascottcelebrant.co.uk is a local funeral celebrant based in Leighton Buzzard, is encouraging people to start open conversations about funerals as part of Funeral Celebrant Day on November 21.

This year’s theme is Ask a Funeral Celebrant is designed to give people the chance to get answers to common questions, bust some myths, and highlight the role of celebrants as the go-to funeral experts.

“People often don’t realise that they can book a funeral celebrant directly, without going through a funeral director first,” says Anita. “We’re here to support families, answer their questions, and help them create funerals that really reflect the person who has died.”

Funeral celebrants lead personalised ceremonies that focus on the life of the person who has died, rather than following a set religious format. From music and readings to rituals and personal touches, celebrants help families shape ceremonies that are unique and meaningful.

As part of Funeral Celebrant Day, Anita will be hosting a Q&A session as well as sharing resources online and offering free consultations. There are many questions that I am asked on a regular basis and this will an opportunity for the local community to get involved and have those questions answered.

Common questions funeral celebrants are asked include:

  • Do I have to use a funeral director?
  • Can I keep a dead person at home for a while?
  • What are my options for coffins and cremation?
  • How do I make a funeral more personal?
  • Can I transport my person myself?

The goal of the day is to get people talking about funerals, remove some of the fear around death, and make sure families know they have choices.

Funeral Celebrant Day is an annual event, championed across the UK, shining a spotlight on the work of celebrants and the importance of personal, family-led funerals.
