GCSEs: 'Excellent year group at Cedars Upper in Linslade get the results they deserve'

Due to exam cancellations as a result of Covid-19 restrictions, results were based on centre assessed grades this year, determined by their teachers. These were estimated based on performance in mock examinations and progress assessments, as well as attainment throughout the GCSE course. Alternatively, students were awarded their moderated grade from the exam board if it was higher.

The school also celebrated outstanding individual student successes including Kaiya Tiwari who swept the board with a remarkable nine grade 9s in her subjects. Poppy Booth achieved three grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Morgan Cummins’ dedication to studies was reflected in results of four grade 9s and five grade Bs. Additionally, Amber Figg was awarded seven grade 9s, a 7 and a 6.

Freddie Goulding celebrated five grade 9s and four grade 8s, and Grace Mullinder achieved seven grade 9s, an 8 and a 7. Joseph Grice was awarded four grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Other high achievers included Holly Platt, Verity Shenton and Oliver Woolsey.

Steven Palmer, headteacher at Cedars Upper School, which is part of The Chiltern Learning Trust, said: “We are delighted with the results. The students deserve them after working so hard over the past three years and after having the chance to prove themselves in exams taken away from them, in what has been such a difficult year for young people across the country.

“The students have the grades from the people that know them the best, their teachers, and this has been an excellent year group that has coped superbly with everything that has been thrown at them. They were denied a leaver’s day or a prom event, and it was fantastic to welcome back the students today.

“The moderation process at the school was rigorous before we submitted the grades to the exam boards and I am confident that these grades are realistic and well deserved. The results continue a pattern of strong GCSE results at the school and students are now well placed for A-levels, college courses, apprenticeships or employment.”
