Redwings Lodge, of Watling Street, is working in partnership with Central Beds Council, after Prime Minister ordered hotels to close to the public as a part of package of measures to restrict the outbreak.

A spokesman for the business said: "As soon as we heard that our hotels would have to close, we thought about how we could help the local community – be it NHS workers or the homeless.

"Our fantastic manager, Karen, who has lived and worked in the area for many years decided to contact Central Beds Council to see if we could lend a hand in any way.

"They were thrilled we got in touch as no other hotels in the area were making themselves available and all councils were asked to make sure homeless people would be housed as a matter of urgency.

"Working closely with them, we decided to allow our hotel to be used and they have been fantastic in providing the support and in ensuring the guests and facilities remain safe throughout the lockdown period.

"It is an uncertain time for everyone, including us as a business and our staff, but Redwings’ values have always been about being welcoming, friendly and part of the local community, so we are proud to play our small part."
