Deep clean at Leighton Buzzard GP surgery after suspected coronavirus case

A Leighton Buzzard GP's surgery is taking urgent precautions after a suspected case of coronavirus in one of its patients.

Bassett Road Surgery issued a statement after the patient attended with symptoms earlier today.

The surgery stated: "An individual who has been identified as a possible Covid-19 case attended the surgery at 1.55pm on Thursday, 12 March.

"To protect other patients and members of the public, the individual was kept in isolation, away from public areas of the surgery and returned home also in isolation.

"In line with Public Health England (PHE) guidance, Bassett Road Surgery is closed for cleaning to remove any potential risk for patients. This will take place overnight and the surgery will re-open tomorrow morning, Friday 13th March 2020 at 08:00 hours.

"Patients and staff can be reassured that their safety is the top priority, and patients are encouraged to attend all appointments as usual."

NHS advise the following to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus:

> Wash your hands with soap and water often and for at least 20 seconds.

> Always wash your hands when you get home or into work.

> Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.

> Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.

> Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards.

> Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

> Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
