Hundreds vaccinated at Leighton Road Surgery's drive-through flu clinic which returns this Sunday

The clinic is part of a flexible programme launched by LRS to provide a fast and effective service for all that also continues to provide protection for the vulnerable and people shielding from Covid. Appointments are available by calling the LRS reception team.

The clinic, held on Saturday and Sunday (Oct 10 and 11), marked the start of the annual flu vaccination programme at LRS to help keep people safe and well this winter.

The next LRS drive-through clinic is on Sunday (Oct 18) and in-clinic flu vaccination appointments for children and adults are also available.

The LRS initiative also received social media support, with more than 4,000 hits through Facebook live coverage of the weekend’s activities.

“We are expecting higher requests for the vaccine this winter because of COVID-19,” said LRS Nursing Services Manager Alex McGarvey.

“We have put a lot of thought and planning into providing a flexible service that we hope will meet the needs of all patients including the vulnerable who are shielding, the 0ver 65s and those with long-term health conditions.”

Dr Farah Paruk, Lead GP at LRS, praised the flu project team including Alex McGarvey and the Patient Participation Group (PPG) for their hard work in planning the surgery’s winter campaign.

“We are delighted that the first drive through was successful ensuring the safe vaccination of many of our most vulnerable patients. We are keen to vaccinate all who are eligible so urge patients to ring and book in.”
