Patients come first for Beds heathcarereview

Speaking after a meeting to consider a progress report on the Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Heathcare Review, Dunstable GP and Chief Clinical Officer for the group Dr Paul Hassan said nothing had been finalised.

“We have listened to our Stakeholder Forum and have more work to do,” he said.

“This will involve further analysis of these models. We will also look at other models including those that enable more hospital services to be delivered in the community. We will only take forward options that we believe will meet the particular needs of local people.

“Throughout the review we have been open and honest, sharing our working with the public, our patients and clinicians. We will continue to do this to ensure we reach the right solutions together.”

More than 85 local patient representatives, carers and clinicians last week looked in detail at five theoretical models for hospital care currently being analysed. The models range from an urgent care centre, run largely by GPs, to a specialist centre.
