Tip your Top Hat to world stage premiere of show

IT is not often that you get a world stage premiere on your doorstep. So hold your (Top) Hats theatre fans, because 76 years after its movie release, Top Hat will debut at Milton Keynes Theatre next week for a fortnight, launching the start of a 17-week UK tour.

Based on the RKO motion picture, the production follows the story of Jerry Travers, played by Tom Chambers, the famous American tap dancer, who arrives in London to appear in his first West End show.

Travers meets the irresistible Dale Tremont – played by Summer Strallen – the girl of his dreams, and follows her across Europe in an attempt to win her heart.

Tom Chambers, well known as surgeon Sam Strachan in Holby City, was winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2008 with partner Camilla Dallerup.

And former Hollyoaks star Summer Strallen created the role of Meg Giry in Love Never Dies at the Adelphi Theatre, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award. She has also been seen on stage as Maria in the West End production of The Sound of Music.

The show features Irving Berlin classics from the movie such as Cheek to Cheek, Isn’t It a Lovely Day to be Caught in the Rain and Top Hat White Tie and Tails.

It is anticipated that the show will transfer to the West End next spring, so here is your chance to see it before it hits the capital!

Top Hat receives its world premiere at Milton Keynes Theatre on Tuesday, August 16, and plays there until Saturday, August 27. For tickets call 0844 8717652.
