What Would Beyonce Do?! (Review)

Nearly 24 hours since all the single (and not-so-single) ladies of the news team went to see Luisa Omielan’s sensational show and we are still buzzing from the bootylicious, Beyoncé-crazy performance.

Using Queen B as inspiration, the genuinely hilarious Luisa talks about her “rubbish life” - breaking up with her ex, moving back home with her mum at the age of 30, and working in a dead-end job.

Other people’s misfortunes shouldn’t be this funny.

With some serious booty-shaking, a fair bit of wailing and wallowing, cutting wit and a fabulous diva attitude, Luisa deftly navigates the treacherous waters of that tricky thing called life, to the soundtrack of some of Beyoncé’s greatest hits (and let’s face it, they’re all great).

Every woman in the audience could relate to Luisa’s trials and tribulations - from Twitter-stalking your ex to depressing encounters with the more moronic members of the male species.

It’s refreshing to hear a female comedian cracking jokes about things girls can relate to, and her frank observations and sometimes shocking improvisations make for a scream of a show.

Despite her self-depreciation, Luisa is pretty talented at singing and dancing as well as the comedy.

Luisa is the kind of woman everyone wants as a best mate; the news team did their best to befriend her after the show, but possibly left an impression that was more groupies than new BFFs.

With strong language, it may not be the best show to see with your gran (although Luisa told us she did perform to a room full of pensioners who were all chuckling along by the end), but it’s perfect for a girls’ night out, hen do, or just a miserable Monday evening when you need cheering up.

Your face will hurt from laughing so much. Really, really, hurt, but it’s worthwhile pain because nothing feels as wonderful as an evening of side-splitting laughter.

There were even a few brave men in the audience who looked like they were having just as much fun as the girls - every one of them was on their feet jiggling around to Survivor by the end of the show.

What Would Beyoncé Do?! is already critically acclaimed, and it’s clear Luisa is going to be a big star.

Beyoncé may be Queen B , but she’s going to need to make space for another bootylicious bottom on the throne soon, because Luisa is definitely the new Queen of comedy.
