Coronavirus restrictions have caused huge disruption to travel this year, forcing many to miss out on holidays abroad.

If you’ve been left with itchy feet and are thinking about planning your next getaway, you could bag a bargain deal to Benidorm, thanks to the launch of a new hotel scheme.

All food included

A new £180 hotel scheme, complete with seven night stays and all food included for free, is launching in the Spanish seaside resort later this month.

Benidorm has suffered from a decline in tourism since quarantine restrictions were introduced for all UK travellers. In an effort to get business booming again, the new initiative will launch on 14 October, offering tourists a choice of where to stay and where to eat over the course of a seven night deal.

The offer is being launched by two trade associations which represent bars and restaurants, Abreca and Cobreca, as well as the Rosemberg Real Estate Agency and the Nicaragua Apartments.

Tourists taking advantage of the offer will be able to choose to eat at restaurants and bars throughout the city which are run by Abreca and Cobreca, rather than just at the hotel or apartment where they are staying.

Travellers will have to cover the cost of their own flights to Benidorm, but deals are available for just £20 return. This means UK residents could enjoy an all-inclusive Spanish holiday for just £200 in total.

In a statement, the trade associations said, "This project is the result of the essential synergy between all the business sectors of the city and it will be a pioneer in Europe offering visitors to enjoy all the gastronomic offer of our city.

"The tourist will have a complete experience of Benidorm, being able to stay in apartments of Real Estate Rosemberg or Apartments Nicaragua and have breakfast, lunch and dinner in any bar, restaurant and cafeteria member of Abreca and Cobreca and adhered to this project.”

‘Benidorm Island’

The popular holiday resort is also hoping to launch a new ‘Benidorm Island’ scheme, encouraging UK tourists to return to its shores.

Under the scheme, tourists would be tested for coronavirus when they arrive in Alicante-Elche Airport, before being offered ‘Covid-safe’ coach transfers to their holiday accommodation in the city.

Tourists would then remain within its boundaries for the duration of their stay, creating an effective ‘island’ on mainland Spain.

A so-called ‘Hospitality Team’ would monitor tourists’ health from day one of their stay, as well as in the 14 days after returning home to the UK. Officials in Benidorm are expected to seek permission from the Spanish and UK governments to trial the scheme with 500 people.

Under current rules, tourists must self-isolate for two weeks on their return to the UK from Spain, including the Balearic and Canary islands, but there are no entry restrictions for UK residents on entering Spain.

The UK government is looking at reducing these quarantine measures, which could be managed by airport testing.
