All hands on deck as Volunteer Centre calls for help this summer

Many organisations in Leighton Buzzard are planning summer events and a call has been made for volunteers to get involved.

There are lots of ways to help, says Janet Brennan from the Volunteer Centre based at Bossard House, in West Street.

She said: “Do you like talking to people and want to get involved more in local life, but are short of time?

“If so, volunteering at local events could be an ideal role for you. Generally you don’t need to commit to volunteering long term and often you and a partner or friend can help together.

“Another advantage is that you’ll probably be volunteering as part of a team, making it very sociable and meaning there’s always someone on hand to advise if needed.

“Exactly what you do and how often does vary, depending on what the organisation needs and how much time you have.”

Among the roles could be welcoming visitors, setting up and/or clearing down after an event, running a stall, selling tickets for activities/raffles, answering enquiries from visitors, handing out leaflets, taking photographs, stewarding and directing car parking.
