Be on flood alert this weekend

Up to 20mm of rainfall was forecast for today (June 15) and the Environment Agency is continuing to closely monitor the situation.

There is currently one flood warning and seven flood alerts in force for rivers across the region and further flood alerts could be issued in response to any significant rainfall.

Peter Quarmby, Environment Agency South East Flood and Coastal Risk Manager, said: “We want communities to remain aware of the risk of further flooding this weekend as a weather front is due to cross the South East, bringing with it potentially heavy downpours and the risk of flash flooding.

“We have already experienced exceptional rainfall in the region over the past few days and have seen the devastating effects that flooding can cause, our thoughts are with those who have been affected. We continue to do all we can to support flooded communities and are ensuring that they are provided with advice, information and support.”

Environment Agency teams continue to be out clearing trash screens, closing flood gates, operating flood storage areas, removing debris from known hotspots and warning and informing the public about the possibility of flooding.
