Beds football chief resigns from FA but now waits for local board decision

BEDFORDSHIRE Football Association chief executive Peter Brown has resigned from his role on the FA Council – but remains in charge of grassroots football across the county.

Mr Brown quit his role on the council – which meets to decide key FA policy – last week following allegations that he had forwarded a ‘joke’ email described by sources as ‘extremely offensive and racist’.

But Mr Brown has not resigned from his post as chief executive of the Beds FA despite calls for his head from some associated with the authority.

Mr Brown told the H&P yesterday: “I’m still in the job at the moment and there’s a board meeting this week.

“They want me to stay on but because it’s been quite unsavoury, I’m not sure.

“I don’t want to leave the association in a mess in regards to projects already underway. My 45 years in football seems to have been ruined by 15 seconds of madness. I’m very grateful for all the messages of support I’ve received from various clubs.

People who know me know that I don’t have a racist attitude.

“It was just a stupid mistake.”
