Beware of scam callers

OFFICERS are warning the public not to hand over personal details if they receive a call from a security company claiming to be working with Bedfordshire Police.

The force says there have been several reports of companies offering home security checks and claiming to be working with the police, with people even told that the Chief Constable of the force is involved.

A spokesman for the force said: “Never buy goods or services as a result of a cold call from a company, over the phone.

If you are interested in a product ask for a number that you call back, when you have had time to think about the offer.

“Never disclose personal details over the phone, like bank account numbers, maiden names, or dates of birth. Do not discuss times and days that your home will be empty.”

Calls can be reported to Trading Standards on 08454 040506.
