Lorry driver convicted after death of boy, 7, in Stoke Hammond bypass crash.

A lorry driver has been convicted of causing the death by dangerous driving of a seven-year-old schoolboy on the A4146 Stoke Hammond bypass.

Christopher Eric Mallett, aged 34, of Bletchley, was found guilty by a unanimous jury at Amersham Crown Court on Friday.

Mallett was driving a HGV tractor along the bypass at about 2.10pm on March 20 last year when his vehicle collided into the back of a stationary Toyota RAV4 that had broken down in lane one of the carriageway.

Seven-year-old boy, Mohammed Ali Ahmed, from Aylesbury, who was in the Toyota with three other family members, died at the scene.

Mallett was arrested on the day of the collision and charged on September 10 last year. He is due to be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on March 7.

Investigating officer, PC Sandra Terry of the Thames Valley Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am pleased that the jury in this case found Mallett guilty of one count of causing death by dangerous driving. Mallett had previously pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of causing death by careless driving but this was not accepted by the Crown and therefore a trial ensued.

“I hope Mallett’s conviction will bring some sense of justice to Mohammed Ali Ahmed’s family. Our thoughts are with his family at this extremely distressing time.”
