Firefighters used backpack sprayers to extinguish the flames – which measured 10x10m.

The incident comes as Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are reminding people that dry grass and fields "can catch fire quickly".

It said: "As crops are being gathered and the countryside becomes busier, please take extra care in rural areas.

"Dry grass and fields can catch fire quickly, and even a small spark can have serious consequences.

"Please take extra care in the countryside, especially with barbecues, smoking materials and any other kind of naked flame.

"If you spot a fire, dial 999 and ask for the fire service."

The cause of the fire was accidental.
