Entrepreneurs’ award for uni comparison website

TWO entrepreneurs from Luton have created an innovative new website for prospective students, and were honoured in the Ernst & Young Future 100 Young Entrepreneurs list.

Yash Bheeroo and his business partner Jason Gibbs, who met at Queen Mary University while studying law, set up www.comparetheuni.com to help students make crucial decisions about their higher education.

The website enables people to compare all the UCAS recognised courses and universities in terms of every factor you could think of, from league table positions to the male-to-female ratio of students.

Managing director Mr Bheeroo, who was born and raised in Luton, said: “We were discussing how confusing it can be making decisions about going to university and realised there was a gap in the market for this kind of website. It has everything students need in one place to guide them through the process of applying to university. It helps you work out if university is for you and there’s even a ‘hidden gems’ section which tells you all about your university town, which current students can use and contribute to as well.”

The website also includes career ladders so students can work out which degree they need, profiles of real people and their experiences of university, a step-by-step guide to finances and The Times and Guardian University league tables.

Mr Bheeroo said: “We were determined that it would be completely free.

“That information should be accessible to everyone, so we licensed the league table and students can now view it on our website”.

With UCAS deadlines approaching, the website is being used internationally.
