Film-maker hopes to give young people an insight into politics

Simon Throssell, of Linslade, wanted to give young people a greater insight and understanding into what the parties stand for and how to make sure their vote makes a difference.

He spoke to local politicians, supporters from different UK political parties and journalists for the documentary series.

He said: “I feel that documentary films should be a journey, with the audience finding out new information at the same time as I do.

“When I first pitched the idea of the documentary, the main aim of the series was to give young people, like myself, a greater insight and understanding into what the parties really stand for.

“We are bombarded with facts and figures about politics, claims and counter-claims from politicians and their spin-doctors every day, and it is proving ever more difficult to cut through lies to the truths that really matter to us.

“I want to inform young people how to make sure their vote makes a difference in the future.”

Two years ago Simon made his first ever short film, Downpour, which was highly commended in the young person’s category of the British International Amateur Film Festival, he has made four short films and is currently working on his fifth.

The film-maker said: “I have been creating videos since I was at lower school, making short Doctor Who parodies with family friends.

“I then progressed to making compilation sketch videos, called Mega-Movies, which would consist of three short films based on family stories or funny quotes from celebrities, with my friend Dan.

“The majority of my films are filmed at my house with the occasional ones being filmed outside by the canal or in the woods.”

The Cedars Sixth form student, who is doing his A-Levels in History, Spanish and Philosophy and Ethics, plans to go to the University of Goldsmiths to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
