German clinic has inspired cancer mum Maggie

TODDINGTON mother-of-six Maggie Thomas is full of inspiration after her first week at a German clinic where she is having hyperthermia in a last ditch attempt to cure her of cancer.

The revolutionary treatment, which blasts tumours with heat, costs £30,000.

Two weeks ago Maggie’s desperate husband David made an emotional appeal to Herald&Post readers to help foot the bill. He told us: “Family and friends have been enormously supportive but there’s only so much anyone can give.

“We hope the newspaper can highlight our plight and any donations would be so gratefully received.”

The couple have already been overwhelmed by the response. A concert at Woburn Sands last week raised a ‘handsome sum.’

In a message from the clinic in Nidda, north east of Frankfurt, Maggie said: “The staff here are so kind and friendly.

“I have settled into the routine of being directed, always with a warm smile, from one treatment to another.

“There are so many stories – some very sad, some very happy, but all inspiring.

“There’s an amazing family from Australia – grandmother, daughter and three grandchildren. The doctors said there was nothing more they could do for Grandma. The clinic was their last hope.

“She had many treatments here, then had surgery to remove almost 95 per cent of her tumours. Most of them were dead, thanks to the hyperthermia she had.

“She is now on her way home but will be back in January to sort out her liver tumours . . . an amazing story of hope and love.

“Another young lady of 30 with two primary cancers, brain and breast, is on the road to recovery.” Maggie has been having infusions to detoxify her body and boost her immune system.

And her spirits were lifted by a surprise visit from two of her sisters, Liz and Mary.

“We haven’t spent this kind of quality time together since we were little,” she said.
