It's tee-time for Leighton newlyweds!

Not that this was a whirlwind romance... for Adrian and his new wife Tracy had been partners for 23 years, bringing up two sons and a daughter before oil company supply-and-recycling boss Adrian found the perfect time and place to pop the question.

That was a Sunday morning in January when Adrian, 52, was installed as captain of the Plantation Road club he joined a decade ago after deciding his action man days days packing down for Leighton rugby club and batting for the Forresters cricket team had come to an end.

As he prepared to tee-off as golf club skipper for the first time, the boss of Southern Oils, suitably attired in a stetson and leather cowboy boots, asked Tracy Fedrick to make his year perfect – and become his wife.

“I suppose you could say he took his time, but we’d had a great partnership with three fantastic children, so it seemed the right thing to do,” said Tracy who was just 14 when she first took a shine to action man Ada.

Both Ada and Tracy had worked at the former Gossard ladies clothing factory in the town where Ada’s late father Douglas and mother Rita were managers, but only got together and became partners some years later. The Leighton-born couple live in Nelson Road.

Joined by more than 100 friends and family for the wedding ceremony conducted by the Rev Noel McGeeney at the historic Saint Nicholas Church at Hockliffe, Tracey was accompanied down the aisle wearing an ivory Maggie Sottero gown with a cathedral veil by son George, with daughter Naomi a bridesmaid accompanied by family friend Sally Enright.

Maid of Honour was Anna Conquest whose husband Andrew together with fellow long standing school friend Ray Hill and golf club immediate past captain Steve Leng, were groomsmen.

And to complete the family occasion, son Edward was the official best man at the wedding reception held in the grounds of Leighton Buzzard Golf Club ... just a chip and a putt from where Adrian had proposed to Tracy months earlier.

It’s believed to be the first time a Leighton club captain has become engaged and married during his year in office during the 91-year history of the club.
