Leighton company in global cycling challenge

Peli BioThermal is providing vital insulin transport equipment for one of the riders in the year-long odyssey.

The pedal-powered project is being undertaken by intrepid Italian duo Chiara Ricciardi and Riccardo Rocchi, who will ride a total of 18,000 km from Cesena in Italy to Singapore.

They’ve dubbed their adventure For A Piece of Cake because construction engineer Chiara has Type 1 diabetes.

She explained: “A piece of cake is an obvious pleasure for many but an achievement for others.”

They decided on a cycling expedition as exercise can help reduce the daily insulin requirement for people with this condition.

Tackling tough terrain in remote regions in extreme weather conditions means Chiara has to have essential medication and equipment on board her bike throughout the journey. Ensuring it remains at the right temperature is critical.
