Look Hoo’s open for Heritage Days

Visitors will be able to wander round the lovingly-tended flower and vegetable gardens – which are being returned to their former glory by an army of volunteers – from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, September 13.

There’s also a free farming exhibition and a range of seasonal fruit and vegetables – plus jars of Luton Hoo honey – on sale at the produce stall.

In addition refreshments will be available in the conservatory.

Back in the day the buildings were considered to be a showcase of modern farming techniques – and they’re still in constant use as the backdrop to many popular films and TV programmes, including Empire of the Sun, Gosford Park, Oliver, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bleak House, Little Dorrit, Desperate Romantics, War Horse, Call the Midwife and The World’s End.

The estate covers 400 hectares and employs modern conservation techniques. It also has close links with the Game and Wildlife Trust.
