Parents plan party in aid of brain charity

Now teachers and parents at her children’s school, Pulford Lower, are doing their bit to help.

Fellow mum Lisa Jacobs, who has two daughters there, explained: “Headteacher Dave Heather has been completely fantastic – he’s very kindly allowing us to hold a summer party on the field on Saturday June 25 and he’s opening the school early so we can set up.

“We want to make it a really good night out so there’s a marquee and a band - Tess and the Durbervilles – and we’re organising two colour-coded cocktails to raise even more money for the charity and the school.”

PR Lisa, who’s currently on maternity leave, is simultaneously indulging her skills as a mixologist.

She said: “The Brain Dazzler will be pink or red in aid of Brain Tumour Research and we’re planning an orange and yellow one for the school.”

There are lots of must-have raffle prizes, with many local shops and organisations giving generously.

Lisa, 34, of Hockliffe Road added: “I think it’s lovely that the school is being so supportive. It’s wonderful that everyone is pulling together to help – the school supporting a parent, ie Nicole, and then the parents in turn supporting the event.

“It’s important to do something for charity and I wanted to do something to help – I’d much rather go to an evening like this than put money in a pot.”

Nicole - who went to Cedars Upper – was told she was suffering with everything from hearing loss to post natal depression before she was finally diagnosed with a brain tumour. She hoped a nine-hour operation at the Royal Free had removed it but two years ago discovered it was growing again.

She’s now passionately committed to her own charity Head 1st, which was created in 2010 under the umbrella of Brain Tumour Research.
