Joe Mayger, 27, took the photo of NASA’s new discovery on a late night stake-out from 11pm until 3.30am on July 11-12.

Joe, who is a proud father to seven-week-old Dottie, said: “Other than my daughter being born, it was one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever seen!”

Joe added: “I hope that my pictures will encourage more people to look up at the sky whether there is a special event or not.

“Throughout the year different objects become visible, so there is always something new to look at.

“Some observations like distant Galaxies and Nebula need a telescope though there are countless objects that are visible with the naked eye, especially the planets in our solar system.. it’s just knowing when and where to look!”
