With the town’s Christmas lights switch-on event unable to go ahead this year, the team is inviting residents to watch their Virtual Christmas Light Turn On when it is streamed live from 6.30pm - 7.30pm.

Chair Sarah Cursons said: “We asked people to video themselves turning on their own Christmas lights this year, regardless of how big or small.

“We have put them all together and it will be made into one film, which will stream live.

“The show will not be one to be missed as we have the amazing Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo turning on the Christmas lights, as well as performances from Fiona Harrison, The 38s and much more.”

Nick Beggs said: “Obviously everything is different this year and Christmas has to fall in with the new restrictions, hence this virtual lighting ceremony.

“I’ve been invited to take part before but have usually been away on tour and not been able. But this year seemed like the right time to get involved.

“I wanted to support Leighton-Linslade Helpers, because they are doing such important work. All charities get highlighted at Christmas, but this year seems even more pertinent with so much need even closer to home.”
