Ducklings reunited with mum after drain dilemma

The animal charity was called after the ducklings were spotted by a member of the public in Knaves Hill, Linslade, on Friday, May 27.

The mother duck was walking around the drain when Animal Collection Officer (ACO) Grace Mead arrived.

ACO Mead said: “Myself and two members of the public were determined to get them out, so we worked as a team to lift off the drain cover.

“The mother duck and another duckling had stuck around while we were rescuing the ducklings, but once we had got them all out she was nowhere to be seen!

“We really wanted to reunite the ducklings with their mum so I put all the ducklings in a box and lifted the lid so she could hear them calling.

“I was starting to lose hope, but thankfully 45 minutes later she landed on the roof of a nearby house and heard them calling – she came down to us and I happily released them back to her.

“They were last seen walking towards a nearby canal, all happily reunited.

“It is so lovely to have a happy rescue like this.

“The members of the public who helped me were absolutely brilliant and I would not have been able to get the drain up on my own.

“It’s a good example of the RSPCA and the public working together to rescue animals in need.”
