Karly West, 31, and her sister Georgia, 29, have encouraged village residents to put cuddly toys in their windows or gardens so children can spot the animals during their permitted daily walk during the coronavirus pandemic.

The game has been inspired by Michael Rosen’s classic story book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and village residents both young and old have enjoyed making displays.

Karly said: “I love how much joy it’s brought to everyone, including adults; it’s just brought a massive sense of community. There was one person who put their childhood bear from 60 years ago in the window!”

The siblings, who both live in Eaton Bray, are part of local family business ‘Auntie Winnie’s Childminding’, along with their mum, Karen, 50.

The business is named in memory of an elderly auntie, and Karen has put bears in its windows, with the team missing all the children they normally look after.

Explaining what inspired the game, Karly said: “I went for a walk with my three-year-old and I found it really hard to keep him amused - we’re normally spoilt with the zoo, farms and parks.

“I thought, he loves ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, let’s see if we can get people on board to put bears in their windows.

“My sister suggested we set up a Facebook page so people can share photos.”

Karly along with son Sonny, three, daughter Imogen, five months, and partner Isaac Maginn, 37, are having fun creating displays. She would also like to mention Georgia’s fiancé, Anthony, who has been busy creating displays for the couple’s house while Georgia has been unwell with coronavirus -like symptoms.

The sisters would like to remind everyone to obey social distancing rules when out.
