‘Golf ball-sized stones in Leighton Buzzard made me fall. Where was the warning sign?’
A Leighton Buzzard man is demanding answers from Central Bedfordshire Council after he had an accident along a “dangerous” section of pavement on Billington Road.
David Heslop, 54, from Johnson Drive, was left with a swollen, bruised foot and ligament damage after he said a large stone on the pathway caused him to fall over on June 24.
The stones had been laid there because CBC were undertaking roadworks in the area, but David claims that a sign should have been in place.
He told the LBO: “I was heading towards town and coming up to the entrance of Billington Court.

“I looked right towards the road to check if any cars were about to turn in, when my ankle completely turned underneath me, and I was lying flat in the entrance of Billington Court.
“My ankle was extremely painful, and initially I thought it was broken. A lady cycling past kindly stopped to check that I was OK. There were none of the construction workers around.”
David says the stones at the entrance to Billington Court have now been filled over with new surfacing, but claims that a sign or cones should have been in place at the time he tripped over.
He argued: “Some of the stones were the size of golf balls and if an elderly person had fallen over they could have seriously injured themselves.
“I was going to let this go, but people have told me I should not. Filling in the pavement like that is absolutely ridiculous and it is just asking for trouble.”
David has sent a formal complaint via CBC’s website but was yet to receive a reply at the time the LBO went to press on July 7.
A CBC spokeswoman, said: “Any personal injury claims logged on our website will be acknowledged within 21 calendar days of receipt.
“Until the full details of the investigation into this incident are known, it is too early for us to comment any further.”
