Gutsy Pitstone NHS nurse takes on virtual Land’s End to John O’Groats trek for cancer research funds

Jonathan Horn from Pitstone is just under four months in to his fundraiser that will see him step 1,083.8 miles between August 2020 and June 2021, 41 weeks (a full marathon distance every seven days) for Cancer Research UK.

He said: “I have been a qualified nurse for just under two years and worked throughout Covid-19. It was a tough time for all involved. However, the work that Cancer Research UK undertakes has been hit by the recent pandemic and I wanted to help in my own way.

“The work Cancer Research UK does is vital to combating cancer and I have seen first hand in my job the stress and pressures this horrible disease can put on patients and their families. I just wanted to do my bit to support them.”

Jonathan says he hasn’t trained for his feat and has set himself a fundraising target of £1,083 which equates to a pound a mile of the challenge. So far he has raised £370 which is 34 per cent.

“It has been tough sometimes to get the distance covered as working as a staff nurse does not always leave much time to get the steps/miles in,” said Jonathan.

“Currently I have a target of between 8,000/10,000 steps which is approximately four to five miles a day.”
