Horses '˜neglected' in Leighton field

Concerned members of the public called the charity amid concerns that the horses had no shelter and no grass to graze on.

It is believed there are around five adult horses and one foal in a field off Old Linslade Road below the Leighton Buzzard Golf Course.

Griselda Clifford told the LBO: “I pointed out to the owner that there was no grass left in the field and a lot of mud!

“He said he was looking for better grazing – but these horses have been left in the field for months. They are fed on hay, which sometimes gets wet and I can’t see any shelter for them.”

Mrs Gifford said the mare’s rib were showing and criticised both the horses’ owner and the owner of the field for allowing the fly-grazing.

A RSPCA spokeswoman said: “We have been made aware of the living conditions of five horses in a field off Old Linslade Road, in Leighton Buzzard.

“An RSPCA inspector is in contact with the owner of the horses about improving conditions and we will continue to monitor their welfare.

“Many animal welfare issues are dealt with by advice and education and we cannot always go into details for legal and data protection reasons.
