Covid-19 has hit people hard and people are struggling, so it is hoped that this social initiative will be supported and spreads some positivity.

#40,000Reasonstocare, which starts in December, aims to highlight that simple actions don’t need to cost money or take time, but can really make a difference. This could be making a Christmas decoration for someone living alone, offering to wrap presents for a neighbour, ringing an elderly relative, or simply smiling and saying hello in the street.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: “Our actions are a response to the growing strain the pandemic is having on our town, heightening the pressure on those experiencing loneliness, mental health challenges and those without support networks.

“The campaign acknowledges the power that the community has to support where traditional infrastructure cannot and wants to raise awareness of these issues over the winter period.

“Everybody struggles at some point and there is no shame in anybody asking for help. Hopefully strong relationships can be forged as a result of this.”

#40,000Reasonstocare is signifcant because there are 40,000 residents living in Leighton Buzzard.
