Susan Humphrey, 52, has been busy organising events for Abbie’s Army as part of her duties as a finalist in the Mrs Crown and Glory competition.

She has recently completed two ‘guess the steps’ challenges, one at work and one at Caldecotte Lake, directed an online pageant, and ran an online photogenic pets competition.

All the money raised will help Abbie’s Army, which is on a mission to find a cure for DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), a type of highly aggressive brain tumour.

Susan, who is proud to be Mrs Crown and Glory Bedfordshire, said: “This is a charity very dear to my heart and I have written a letter to our local MP, Andrew Selous, and the prime minister regarding the importance of charity funding for this cause.

“During the pageant you have to participate in raising money for their nominated charity, and Mrs Crown and Glory has Abbie’s Army.”

Susan featured in the LBO earlier this year when she organised community treats as part of her fundraising, including an Easter egg delivery to care homes.

However, Susan is keeping her spirits high, and is proud to have been selected for the Classic Miss British Isles competition, too.

Susan, who works as a senior carer, said: “Miss British Isles is a modelling competition where you submit a photo and they assess and judge the profiles that you are connected to, such as Star Now or Instagram.

“I was lucky enough to have been contacted and informed that the judges loved my photos.

“It was a bit of a shock as I applied for this well before lockdown. I am over the moon and honoured to be able to represent my county of Bedfordshire in this competition. It means so much to me.”

Susan would like to say a big thank you to all the individuals and businesses that donated a raffle prize as part of her fundraising for Abbie’s Army, including: Leighton Buzzard Golf Club; Yannis at The Anchor, Tilsworth; Aldi, Grovebury Road; Whipsnade Zoo; Woburn Safari Park; Jules handbags; Luton Hoo Golf club; A1 Limos; and Kelly’s Creative Bakery.

She added: “I would also like to thank my wonderful husband and daughter, Paige Archer, for supporting me not just through Mrs Crown and Glory Bedfordshire but also through the Classic Miss British Isles competition, and in everything over the past few months - especially through lockdown.”
