Kathy Keeley, 53, held the challenge via post and online, which helped to raise £220 and £105 for the charities Tearfund and Toilet Twinning respectively.

Tearfund provided the materials for the quirky quiz - which included questions such as ‘who invented the toilet’ - and took a “light hearted look at a serious subject”.

Kathy, who goes to Trinity Methodist Church, and is treasurer of Leighton-Linslade Churches Together, said: “Tearfund is a Christian charity working with around 50 countries across the world - developing countries.

“The idea is to follow Jesus where the need is greatest, seeing where the problems are and what needs to be fixed.”

Tearfund partners with churches in some of the world’s poorest countries, and aims to tackle poverty via ‘sustainable development, responding to disasters and challenging injustice’.

Meanwhile, Toilet Twinning encourages people to donate £60 and ‘twin their toilet’, meaning the donor will enable families in poor communities to build a basic lavatory.

Kathy added: “I have seen the work of Tearfund and Toilet Twinning first hand and have my own toilet and bin twinned. I understand they now twin taps as well. They are both schemes that I would like to encourage and they work with everyone, not just Christians.”

The prizes of twinning, soap, ‘toilets around the world’ toilet paper and Fairtrade chocolate were won by Caz Callan, 68, of Milton Keynes, who has now twinned his kitchen bins with a rubbish collection and recycling enterprise in Pakistan.

Caz, who performed well in the anagrams and punchlines rounds and scored around 90 per cent in the quiz, said: “I was familiar with Toilet Twinning because I’d come across it at the Quaker Centre in Milton Keynes - their toilet is twinned with one in Cambodia.

“Water and sanitation is second only to vaccinations. It is really important for people’s quality of life and health. You can do more good by improving water supplies than you can with tons of food.”
