The 75th anniversary was the reason for May Day Bank Holiday being moved from the traditional Monday to the Friday.

But due to the ongoing social distancing measures and advice from the Government, the council is unable able to host its events as planned.

Instead, the council has embraced the modern-day communication methods that people 75 years ago had not even dreamed of by sharing activity content across its social media channels throughout VE Day.

A spokesman said: “We will be keeping to the original timings set out by the Queen’s Pageantmaster and will be taking part in the Nation’s Toast, led by the Mayor of Leighton-Linslade [Cllr David Bowater] at 3pm on Friday.

“Also planned for the day are videos from piper James Reid and the town crier, Chris Morgan. Both will be taking part in the national commemorations for those who gave so much to our nation.”

Residents across the nation are encouraged to take part in the celebrations by hosting stay at home parties observing social distancing measures.

The council will be sharing a range of resources and recipes during the coming days across its social media channels @LLTCNews on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
