Leighton-Linslade Town Council has been working closely with the Royal British Legion and All Saints Church on plans for this year’s Remembrance event.

The Covid-19 pandemic means that no parade will take place this year. Although a short service will be held and a limited number of wreaths will be laid, attendance will be by invitation only, to ensure it can be done safely.

The number invited to attend will be considerably lower than usual to ensure that strict social distancing can be adhered to. The event can only be permitted to take place on this basis for the obvious safety reasons.

All parties would like to strongly encourage Leighton Buzzard and Linslade residents to stay at home this year and to instead watch the act of Remembrance with their loved ones, in their own homes.

The short service will be live-streamed to the town council’s Facebook page (@LLTCNews) on the morning of Sunday, 8 November. If you prefer to watch the national commemoration at that time, you can catch up on what happened locally by visiting the All Saints Church website from 3pm that day.

A town council spokesman said: "Whilst it is sad that the parade and service in Church Square, normally so well attended by residents, cannot take place this year in the usual format, we will do everything we safely can in order to ensure that our community can remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom."
