'˜Ridiculous' residents' parking scheme... which resident is banned from joining!

Frustrated Lainy Ward, of Old Road, Linslade, is demanding answers from the council after it rejected her bid to join the residents’ parking scheme.

That means the 53-year-old is unable to park anywhere near her property for more than a few hours without fear of being slapped with a ticket because of the parking restrictions on her road and the neighbouring roads located near the railway station.

She said: “There is residential parking opposite us and restricted parking adjacent to our property and now Stoke Road, which is where we used to park, is also residential parking.

“I understand that there needs to be restrictions because it is so close to the station and they don’t want rail users parking there but I 
have lived here for 20 years, so why am I not allowed a permit?

“Apparently I am on the wrong side of the road and we are not allowed a parking permit, it is unbelievable.”

Mrs Ward lives with her husband, Kevin, and 21-year-old son, who both work in Milton Keynes.

She told the LBO: “The restrictions that are in place mean that we would need to move the car every few hours.

“My husband works shifts so sometimes he is home during the day when the restrictions are in place.

“At the moment we are parking in the residential and restricted areas and taking the chance on being fined, there is nothing else we can do.

“It is absolutely ridiculous.”

A spokesperson for Central Bedfordshire Council said: “We understand the frustrations of the resident but numbers 16 to 90 Old Road are not eligible for a permit.

“We could amend the legal Order to include those properties, but the Central Linslade zone is already heavily parked up, so allowing a significant number of extra cars to park there would put a lot of pressure on parking in that area.

“If we wanted to make such an amendment we would have to publish a proposal and consult those affected.”
