On Friday, November 13, the Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard Truck Convoy made a special visit to the Leighton- Linslade Helpers (LLH) warehouse in order to gift the team 20 turkeys.

The kind donation will be part of a festive hamper scheme that the LLH is organising in order to help families in need this winter.

Graham Munt, organiser of the truck convoy, said: “We run the convoy every year and have been doing so for the last six years. Unfortunately, this year we couldn’t do it. We have got some funds left over, so we thought it would be a good idea to give something back to the community.

“The LLH were looking for donations and they invited us for a couple of hours. They absolutely loved the truck!”

Graham received a £40 gift voucher from Tesco to help pay for the turkeys, while the convoy gave £220 towards the donation.

The convoy has previously organised a festive Father Christmas appearance in Dunstable and a Santa lorry tour in Aylesbury, and hopes to be back in full force in 2021.

Graham added: “I would like to say thank you to Tesco for getting the turkeys for us and giving us a discount. I wish the Leighton-Linslade Helpers all the luck and if they need anything in the future, please get in touch and, if it is possible, we will do it.”

Lead co-ordinator at LLH June Tobin said: “As you may be aware, the truck convoy raise money throughout the year for their good causes and always put on a fantastic show at Christmas with Santa sitting on a Harley Davidson on the back of a fabulous truck. Unfortunately this year they have had to tailor their activities.

“We at LLH have planned Christmas hampers for families in need this year and will be working with other organisations in Leighton Buzzard to co-ordinate a joint approach.

“We have been fortunate over the months to have received lots of non food donations, and have provided care hampers in previous feel-good campaigns. So, this is a natural extension of that.”
