Cheddington village is turning itself into a zoo as residents raise money to help  their neighbouring menagerie Whipsnade through the pandemic.

Families are invited to come along for a socially-distanced walk round the village to see garden displays of cuddly animals, art work, pets, and more!

There will also be a cake sale, as well as plenty of collection pots in which ramblers can donate money to support Whipsnade Zoo.

Organiser Rachel James, said: “I originally planned this when the zoo was still closed. Now it’s open, but obviously they still need lots of money.

“Whipsnade means so much. We can all see the lion from a lot of places around here and we have grown up visiting the zoo and have many fond memories. It also means a lot to our little ones.

“We really miss going and everyone is excited about this weekend. It will be nice to bring everyone together. At the beginning of lockdown we did the Bear Hunt, and families loved walking round; now that the lockdown is nearing its end, it’s another way of bringing people together.”

Rachel and her family will be taking part, as they plan to create a display with a five foot cuddly giraffe called Brian and a toy elephant called Juno who can perform tricks!

Rachel’s daughter Alexa, three, loves the flamingoes at Whipsnade Zoo, while husband Daniel, 42, has enjoyed helping with the family display.
