Planets estate Tesco cashpoint smashed by thieves

A Tesco Express cashpoint has been smashed during an attempted burglary in the Planets estate, Leighton Buzzard.

Early on Tuesday morning (October 2) thieves targeted the cash machine, ripping open the top half, breaking its screen, and leaving its cash cassette nearby on the floor.

A Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman, said: “We were called at approximately 2.51am on Tuesday (October 2) to a report of an attempted burglary in Aries Court, Leighton Buzzard.

“At approximately 2am, thieves targeted a cashpoint at Tesco, but were unsuccessful. Officers attended and carried out initial enquiries.

“An investigation is ongoing, and we’re continuing to appeal for information about this incident. Anyone with any information should contact us by visiting www.bedfordshire.police.uk/report or by calling 101 and quoting reference number 40/28200/18.”

A Tesco Bank spokesperson, said: “We are aware that the cash machine outside our Leighton Buzzard store was damaged on Monday night. Police have been made aware of the incident, and we’re working hard to restore service as soon as possible.”
